In his speech today at the “Egyptian-German Partnership Day in the Drinking Water Sector” conference, which was organized under the title “Sustainable and Effective Solutions for the Water Sector,” Engineer Mamdouh Raslan, Chairman of the Holding Company for Potable Water and Wastewater, confirmed the interest of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly in this event. Elham, to support the German partnership in the fields of drinking water and sanitation, expressing the importance of the conference as a pillar of integration between Germany and Egypt in vital fields to reach positive results and solutions to the most important challenges we face and exchange experiences and good practices in this sector.
Raslan said that the holding company has strong partnerships with German entities working in the drinking water and sanitation sector, such as the German Agency for International Cooperation.
He explained that the holding company was established in 2004, and is currently affiliated with 24 subsidiaries to provide drinking water and sanitation services to various governorates of the Republic. The length of drinking water networks is estimated at 156 thousand km, and the percentage of drinking water coverage reaches 97% nationwide.
He continued, “The challenge facing the sector currently is sanitation coverage, especially in rural areas, noting that the current coverage rate reaches 34% of the population in rural areas, and we aim to reach a coverage rate of 60% in 2022 through a very ambitious plan that requires support.” And building companies with international bodies.
The head of the holding company confirmed that the state pays great attention to Upper Egypt, to improve drinking water and sanitation facilities in accordance with Egypt’s Vision 2030, which sets investment priorities and intensifies investments for infrastructure projects to achieve balance in development in the country, especially Upper Egypt.
Raslan pointed out that the investments currently allocated for sanitation projects through grants and loans are estimated at 40 billion pounds, and there are future agreements with investments estimated at 20 billion pounds.
He added: We aim to reduce diseases resulting from poor sanitation services, in addition to improving the quality of drinking water and expanding the field of seawater desalination.
