About the labs

The Alexandria Water Company supplies nearly 6 million citizens with pure drinking water. The service areas extend from Alexandria Governorate, part of Buhaira Governorate, and the northern coast.
The Alexandria Water Company consists of 11 purification stations, each of which includes an integrated laboratory equipped with the latest special laboratory devices to conduct various laboratory experiments, in addition to the central laboratory for research and quality and environment management.

        

                                                                                            

The laboratory for each station uses the following machines:
1- Monitoring the water treatment process in its various stages over the course of 24 hours, by conducting the necessary physical, chemical, bacteriological and biological analyzes according to the internationally defined methods.
2- Determine the optimal doses of chemicals used in treatment processes (alum and chlorine).
3- Monitoring the pure water network of the treatment unit.
4- Participate in solving emergency operating problems on processing units

The Central Laboratory for Research and Quality Control consists of five basic departments, namely:
1- Organic Chemistry Research Department: 
It is equipped with the latest devices for the detection of organic pollutants such as pesticides, herbicides, chlorinated and halogenated pesticides, as well as for the detection of halogenated and cyclic organic pollutants. The latest equipment has been used, such as:
Chromatographic analyzer with mass detector

5- Quality Control and Environment Department:

It is a new department that was recently established in the laboratories sector to supervise the application of all quality standards on analyzes in accordance with the international standard of ISO 17025 for the year 2005. In order to reach the best cup of water offered to the citizen, all standards of safety, health and quality are applied to it, starting from bringing samples through supervising the calibration of devices To ensure the validity of the analyzes until the results are issued through an integrated program that starts from encoding the sample using the bar code device until extracting the results electronically to ensure that no errors occur during the exchange of samples
Participate in an integrated program with other ISO 17025-certified companies to exchange joint analyzes in order to obtain the best results and apply the latest methods in analyzes
The department follows a department for preparing and bringing samples and is equipped with the latest devices necessary for measurements during the trip and keeping them in special refrigerators to ensure that they arrive intact to enter the laboratories to conduct analyzes on them.

    1- Monitoring the intakes of the various stations.
    2- Monitoring raw water sources, which include the Al-Mahmudiya and Al-Nasr canals, in addition to the Rashid branch.
    3- Monitoring the pure water network of the city of Alexandria and part of the lifts of the northern coast.
    4- Analysis and evaluation of chemicals and raw materials used in processing operations.
    5- Carrying out research related to the development of water treatment processes and examining the extent to which they can be applied in practice.
    6- Paying attention to consumer problems by examining the causes of complaints and overcoming them.
    7- Applying the quality control and assurance program (QC & QA) on all analyzes conducted in all the company's laboratories.
    8- Using the mobile laboratory to conduct surveys and field experiments in a timely manner to follow up the water quality. The Alexandria Water Company, in cooperation with the USAID, requested a field experiment unit, and the unit was actually supplied.
    9- The laboratory is served by a fleet of vehicles equipped with all the necessary devices for measurements during the trip and keeping them in refrigerators to ensure their safe arrival in order to enter the laboratories to conduct analyzes on them.
