Alexandria Water gets first places in the International Federation of Inventors Competition for the year 2021
Engineer Ahmed Gaber, President of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company, confirmed that the company is keen to support scientific research as it is the pillar and foundation of all progress and construction, saying that: “Innovation and invention contribute greatly to the development of the drinking water and wastewater sector,” and the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater pays great attention. He said that the drinking water company in Alexandria participated in the competition organized by the International Federation of Inventors for the year 2021, based in Morocco, last August, and its results were announced this month, so that the company obtained first places, as Dr. Maysa Salah El-Din received the platinum award for the research submitted entitled “Using... Extracts of natural herbs and algae in cooling water treatment in factories,” while engineer Samar Mustafa won the silver award for the research presented in treating drinking water, while the bronze award was won by chemist Ali Mohamed Al-Sayed for his research “Water Treatment Using Electric and Magnetic Fields,” and chemistry. Ahmed Mohammed Al-Zahawi for his research “The Field of Green Hydrogen”.
He added that such specialized research in the fields of drinking water and sanitation contributes to enriching scientific knowledge to achieve sustainable development goals and develop and improve services provided to citizens, taking into account the importance of preserving the environment.
For her part, Dr. Maysa Salah El-Din said that the research in which she participated aims to control the corrosion of metal objects (steel) and prevent the formation of scales in cooling systems or boilers by using some herbal extracts that do not pollute the environment instead of chemicals, and thus they are suitable for use in Food and pharmaceutical industries...etc
She added that it can be applied with the aim of reducing pollution on the watercourse and thus reducing the cost of water treatment in water companies, as this innovation depends on preparing an extract from herbs in a simple chemical way, in order to use it to protect equipment from corrosion and prevent the formation of scales in water environments.
She explained that the most important advantages of this invention are that it is inexpensive and safe for the environment, and consists of available natural materials, is not complicated to manufacture, and performs the same role played by chemicals imported from abroad, as well as reducing the use of chemicals used in water treatment (alums and chlorine).
