The head of Alexandria Water participates in the National Industry Sustainability Conference in the field of water and sanitation services..

The Alexandria Water Company, headed by Engineer Ahmed Gaber, participated in the conference held at the Mirage Hotel in Alexandria entitled “Sustainability of the National Industry in the Field of Water and Wastewater Services,” held under the auspices of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Communities, the European Union delegation in Cairo, the Alexandria Governorate, and the Holding Company for Potable Water and Wastewater.

Mr. Major General Mohamed Al-Sharif, Governor of Alexandria, opened his speech by welcoming the attendees, and talked about the major projects that the city of Alexandria is witnessing to make it truly the bride of the Mediterranean. He also talked about the integrated strategy for separating rainwater, which will be used in the new delta project, and raising the efficiency of the sewage system to absorb About 18 million cubic meters of rainwater to get rid of water accumulations and facilitate traffic movement during the winter.

In his speech, Mr. Dr. Sayed Ismail, Deputy Minister of Housing, thanked the representatives of the European Union, the Businessmen Association and the companies participating in the conference, and several points were mentioned, including:

- Challenges faced by the drinking water and sanitation sector during the last ten years. - Developing clear plans to maximize the use of drinking water resources.

- Groundwater and its proper use without being unfair to it because it belongs to future generations.

- Stations were established with a capacity of 43 million cubic meters per day.

- The wastewater challenge and the shift from safe disposal of wastewater to its recycling and use.

- Increasing the capacity of sewage stations to 18.6 million cubic meters per day.

- Investing in human capital and establishing a number of “8” schools for distinguished technical graduation, and there are also partnerships with some countries.

- Controlling wastage, which means unaccounted for water, as a plan was developed to reduce wastage from 34% to 26%.

We have the capabilities to export trained Egyptian workers, as well as export information on drinking water and sanitation.

The value of investments is estimated at 5 billion dollars.

- There are 16 development partners.

Finally, Alexandria is the first city to develop a strategic plan to reuse rainwater.

In his speech, Engineer Ahmed Jaber praised the organizers of the exhibition, the attendees, the organizers, and the heads of the subsidiary companies. In a brief speech, he emphasized the process of localizing the local industry, as the company paid attention to the human resource in establishing workshops for plumbing, blacksmithing, carpentry, cars, and clothing, and workshops for manufacturing electrical panels, which are Fully manufactured, which creates more job opportunities.

The daily water production is estimated at 3 million cubic meters, and production will be increased to 4.5 million cubic meters in the coming years.

- Research was conducted to reuse water from clarifiers and filters.

- The company obtained an international certificate to measure its carbon footprint related to climate change.

The company owns more than 20 patents.

- Establishing internationally recognized groups for the company’s members to conduct research and experiments on water.

- Installation of more than a million spare parts.

Engineer Mohamed Hanno, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Businessmen Association, also spoke about the mega projects in Alexandria, directing his thanks and appreciation to the officials.

Mr. Major General Eng. Mahmoud Nafie, President of the Sanitation Company in Alexandria, spoke about the company’s plans to cleanse the networks and raise the efficiency of the sanitation system, and monitor the locations of rainwater accumulations at the governorate level, which are estimated at 155 points, with the advance placement of suction equipment. - Achieving financial sustainability for the water and wastewater services industry.
