Alexandria Water Company activates tripartite cooperation protocol in partnership with the Directorate of Education and Rotary Clubs...
As part of the implementation of the tripartite protocol signed between the Alexandria Water Company, the Alexandria Education Directorate, and the Rotary Clubs, under the umbrella of the "My School, My Present and My Future" initiative, the initiative's activities were launched at the New Republic Official Language Schools complex. These activities aim to plant trees in schools, raise water awareness among students, and install water-saving devices.
The initiative seeks to beautify schools by planting trees across large areas, in addition to raising students' awareness of the importance of rationalizing water consumption and reducing waste. This is achieved through the installation of smart devices that regulate water pressure by mixing it with air, achieving high consumption efficiency and saving between 35% and 50% of water consumption. The experiment was a resounding success, saving approximately 500 cubic meters per day.
In his speech at the event, Engineer Ahmed Gaber, Chairman of the Alexandria Water Company, expressed his sincere thanks and appreciation to the attendees, especially Dr. Arabi Abu Zeid, Director of the Alexandria Education Directorate. He noted that the installation of energy-saving components has been completed in approximately 65% of Alexandria's schools, effectively contributing to reducing consumption across the governorate.
His Excellency also valued the Ministry of Education's support for the Technical Secondary School for Drinking Water and Wastewater, praising the distinguished management and competent teachers, who provide an opportunity for a new generation with a high degree of professionalism and a strong awareness of their responsibilities towards current challenges, most notably water scarcity and climate change. The first batch of distinguished craftsmen graduated last year, comprising 64 students, who have been fully employed by the Alexandria Water and Wastewater Companies.
His Excellency also commended the role of Rotary Clubs for their pioneering role in supporting the most needy areas by delivering water and installing water meters to citizens, emphasizing that these efforts represent a model of integration between the government sector and civil society in addressing challenges.
For his part, Dr. Arabi Abu Zeid, Director of the Education Directorate, thanked the Alexandria Water Company, led by Engineer Ahmed Gaber, for its continuous efforts and valuable contributions, which include installing water-saving devices, implementing tree-planting and awareness campaigns, and providing 200 schools with cleaning supplies. He emphasized that this cooperation embodies a true partnership aimed at serving the nation and capitalizing on available resources. He praised the role of the Water School, which he described as one of the most efficient schools nationwide.
In the same context, Dr. Maged Zekry, Chairman of the Environment Committee for Rotary District 2451 - Egypt, commended this purposeful forum, which contributes to raising students' environmental awareness through school tree-planting and the installation of water-saving devices. He also commended the efforts of the Alexandria Water Company and the Education Directorate.
It's worth noting that an agreement is currently underway to install 10,000 water-saving units in all schools in Alexandria Governorate.
