As part of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company's commitment to supporting the state's efforts to achieve the goals of Egypt's Vision 2030 and to integrate the environmental dimension into operational and management policies, the General Administration of Research and Development organized a workshop entitled:
"The Concept of Carbon Footprint and Methods of Calculating It in Water Plants" at Mansheya (1) Station.
The workshop was held under the patronage and attendance of Eng. Ahmed Gaber, Chairman and Managing Director of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company, and was attended by sector heads, general managers, department managers, and a group of company employees interested in sustainability and the environment.
During the workshop, Dr. Maysa Salah El-Din Ismail, General Manager of Research and Development, gave a comprehensive presentation on the concept of carbon footprint, the importance of measuring it for individuals and institutions, and its compatibility with international laws and standards. She also explained the mechanisms for calculating greenhouse gas emissions and ways to reduce them at both the personal and institutional levels. It's worth noting that Dr. Maisa Salah El-Din is the first certified auditor in Egypt for measuring greenhouse gases and carbon footprints. She is a UNESCO-certified trainer in the fields of water treatment, climate change, and carbon footprints, in addition to being an environmental consultant for presidential development projects affiliated with the "Future of Egypt" Sustainable Development Agency.
In his speech, Engineer Ahmed Gaber emphasized that environmental work is no longer a luxury, but rather a necessity closely linked to resource sustainability and building a better future. He emphasized that the Alexandria Water Company prioritizes supporting everything that achieves integration between economic development and environmental conservation, and this workshop represents one aspect of our ongoing commitment to the environment and society.
He also emphasized the importance of raising employee awareness and equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to address environmental challenges and measure carbon footprints, as this is one of the key tools toward achieving a more sustainable and efficient work environment.
This workshop is part of the company's efforts to create an environmentally conscious work environment and implement sustainable practices within facilities, in line with national and international policies to address the effects of climate change and achieve comprehensive development.
