Alexandria Water Company: Water Safety and Security Plan for the El-Zohour Station Supply System Approved...
As part of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company's commitment to ensuring drinking water quality and preserving public health, Engineer Ahmed Gaber, Chairman and Managing Director, announced the approval of the Water Safety and Security Plan for the El-Zohour Station Supply System (first edition). The plan was approved by the Supreme Water Committee during its session held on March 19, 2025. The committee includes representatives from the Ministries of Health, Water Resources and Irrigation, Environment, the Regulatory Authority for Drinking Water, Wastewater, and Consumer Protection, and the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater.
Engineer Ahmed Gaber emphasized that the approval of this plan comes within the framework of implementing an integrated water quality risk management approach. This approach involves assessing potential risks, developing necessary corrective measures, and monitoring water quality throughout the supply chain, from the source to the consumer, to ensure the provision of safe and reliable services to citizens.
For her part, Dr. Lamia Mustafa, Head of the Laboratories and Research Sector, explained that all the data required to prepare the plan was obtained in collaboration with internal teams from various sectors of the company, in coordination with external teams, and the Water Safety and Security General Administration team - West and South Department.
Engineer Jawida Ali Suleiman, Head of the Southern Region Sector, indicated that the Al-Zohour station, which operates using ultra-filtration technology and has a design capacity of 5,500 cubic meters per day, has been in operation since 2013. It serves several villages in Borg El Arab and Banjar El-Sukkar, with a total population estimated at approximately 30,000 people. These villages include:
23 (Sayyidna Ibrahim), 24 (Sayyidna Idris), 26 (Sayyidna Hud), 27 (Sayyidna Shu'ayb), 28 (Amr ibn al-'As), 29 (Tariq ibn Ziyad), and Al-Takamul Village.
Dr. Ahmed Al Shami, Director General of Water Safety and Security, stated that the approval of this plan is one of the highest evaluations granted to drinking water service providers. It is renewed every two years, subject to the approval of the three relevant authorities: the Ministry of Health, the Regulatory Authority, and the Holding Company, in accordance with guidelines issued by the World Health Organization.
Finally, Engineer Ahmed Jaber extended his sincere appreciation to all the teams involved in preparing and implementing the Water Safety and Security Plan for the Al Zahour Station, emphasizing that what has been achieved represents a successful model of integration and coordination between relevant authorities and technical teams within and outside the company, enhancing the company's ability to provide sustainable and safe services to citizens.
