The Prime Minister Inaugurates the Control and Management Center of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company
During his tour of Alexandria Governorate today, Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, inaugurated the Control and Management Center of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company, affiliated with the Holding Company for Drinking Water and Wastewater.
The Prime Minister noted that the center is the first of its kind among the affiliated companies, in implementation of the directives of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi. This project comes within the framework of establishing operations rooms within the companies to manage crises and link them to the national emergency system and the state's unified command center. This supports the state's sustainable development plans, contributing to the provision of better services to citizens around the clock, especially during the rainy season.
The Prime Minister and his entourage listened to an explanation from Engineer Sherif El-Sherbiny, Minister of Housing, Utilities, and Urban Communities, about the Water Company's Command and Control Center. El-Sherbiny emphasized that the center represents a qualitative development in how water resources are managed and crises are handled efficiently and with rapid response. He explained that the center is an advanced model for applying modern technology in network monitoring, with immediate control of malfunctions and outages. Furthermore, the center includes an electronic monitoring system that links control centers and vital areas within the governorate to ensure integrated operations and rapid performance.
Lt. Gen. Ahmed Khaled Hassan Saeed, Governor of Alexandria, also indicated that this center is one of the executive arms of the Alexandria Governorate's main Command and Control Center, which coordinates with all control centers in various service sectors, with the aim of unifying efforts to address crises and quickly resolve problems facing citizens across the governorate.
Lieutenant General Ahmed Khaled Hassan Saeed explained that the room receives reports from executive bodies, the governorate's operations rooms, and the emergency services, in addition to important reports related to the company. He also provides 24-hour telephone reception services. He noted that the room includes six main lines dedicated to monitoring and receiving reports, in addition to the use of the SCADA program to monitor station pressures, a GIS network reading program, a laboratory program to ensure water quality, and a strategic storage program. The operations room has been equipped with the latest technologies and advanced devices to keep pace with technological developments and achieve the highest levels of efficiency. The room has also been supported by a surveillance camera system to enhance security within the company's buildings. Engineer Ahmed Gaber, Chairman and Managing Director of the Alexandria Drinking Water Company, reviewed the implementation status, highlighting the hotspots and the most important ongoing and completed projects. He emphasized that the company is working in accordance with the pillars and objectives of Egypt's Vision 2030, focusing on infrastructure development and operating within a sustainable ecosystem. He also highlighted the company's efforts to develop stations, increase production capacity, and improve water pressure in networks. He also reviewed the most prominent projects implemented with the aim of increasing the efficiency of the water system within the governorate, while ensuring rational consumption and reducing waste. Gaber highlighted the implementation status of the presidential "Decent Life" initiative projects to develop rural Egyptian villages. He also highlighted the total cost of drinking water projects from 2014 to 2024, emphasizing that the company is a pioneer in adopting all water safety and security plans for supply and distribution systems. He reviewed performance evaluation indicators and the implementation of rationalization and governance principles. He also reviewed the strategic plan and future projects targeted until 2050.
Major General Mahmoud Nafea, Chairman and Managing Director of the Alexandria Wastewater Company, reviewed the company's capabilities and efforts to improve performance. The number of pumping stations reached 183 this year, compared to 141 in 2015. He also noted the increase in treatment plants, which reached 21 this year, compared to 15 in 2015. The current coverage rate is more than 92%.
Major General Mahmoud Nafea highlighted the urgent projects for the governorate's drainage system, including the completion of 73 supply and installation stations out of a total of 82, in addition to the completion of five slope network and discharge pipeline projects out of a total of six. He reviewed the strategic plan and comprehensive preparations for the rainy season, along with the preventative measures and procedures to address severe climate change and ensure full preparedness for these conditions.
Nafeh reviewed the company's achievements in the field of renewable energy and the measures to support the New Delta Project, presenting the company's future vision.
Dr. Mostafa Madbouly also inspected the mobile crisis management room, whose tasks focus on handling reports received from the various operations rooms, issuing the necessary permits for operation, monitoring water quality, receiving station operation data, and monitoring and monitoring the security situation at the stations. Furthermore, the room is distinguished by its field presence for internal monitoring and early warning operations.
