A glimpse into Dr. Maysa Salah El-Din's participation in the IWWI Cairo 2025 conference

She presented a comprehensive vision for the transition to low-carbon utilities, along with a supportive address from the Chairman of the Alexandria Water Company.

The session was titled “From Carbon Footprint to Zero Neutrality: Water Sector Strategies for Transitioning to Low-Carbon Utilities.”

Dr. Maysa Salah El-Din, Director General of Research and Development, opened the session by emphasizing the significant scientific and professional value posed by the presence of Engineer Gaddafi Ibrahim, Chairman and Managing Director of the Alexandria Water Company. She noted that his attendance represented direct support for the company's research staff and creative minds, reinforcing the reliance on science and innovation as a fundamental path to achieving sustainability.

Dr. Maysa then delivered a lecture titled “The Green Economy and Blue Carbon and Their Impact on the Water Sector,” which addressed three main themes:

  1. Green Finance: Presenting mechanisms for qualifying water and sanitation projects to attract green bonds, thereby providing sustainable financing for infrastructure development.
  2. Blue Carbon: Clarifying the role of protecting aquatic ecosystems in carbon storage and creating new economic value that supports the state's strategy towards net-zero carbon neutrality.
  3. Operational Sustainability: Emphasizing that adopting these concepts contributes to reducing operational costs and enhancing the sector's ability to cope with the repercussions of climate change.

She affirmed the Egyptian water sector's commitment to continuing its work towards net-zero carbon neutrality and strengthening its sustainability path in the coming years.

In his speech, Engineer Al-Qaddafi emphasized the Alexandria Water Company's commitment to supporting scientific research and providing a suitable environment for the company's technical and scientific staff. He pointed out that the transition to a low-carbon economy is no longer an option, but a national necessity that aligns with the Egyptian state's objectives.

He commended Dr. Maysa Salah El-Din's efforts, stressing that the company prioritizes scientific innovation to improve operational efficiency, reduce emissions, and enhance the sector's resilience in the face of environmental and climate challenges.
