Under the coordination and organization of the General Administration of Awareness and Community Participation at the Alexandria Drinking Water Company, yesterday, Eng. Ahmed Gaber Shehata, Chairman of the Board of Directors, participated in the activities of the Earth Day celebration at the Faculty of Science, Alexandria University, under the slogan “Facing Challenges in Solid Waste Management,” under the patronage of His Excellency Minister Abdel Aziz Qanswa. The Governor of Alexandria, in the presence of a group of stars of Alexandria society in the fields of science, industry and politics.
The celebration began with an opening speech delivered by Dr. Ishaq Khalil, who is organizing this event. He stated through his speech that the College of Science, for the ninth year in a row, organizes an Earth Day celebration and chooses a specific slogan to remind of the importance of saving planet Earth from deterioration and preserving it.
Many of the participating scientific leaders declared in their speech that we do not work on isolated islands, and we all strive as one team to support our community through the feeling stemming from the importance of participating in protecting the Alexandrian community since it is part of planet Earth.
Dr. Mukhtar Youssef, Vice President of the University for Postgraduate Studies, promised that everyone will strive to close the solid waste file in Alexandria, and this slogan will never be repeated in any upcoming celebration, especially Earth Day.
Engineer Ahmed Al-Sajini, Chairman of the Local Administration Committee in the House of Representatives, provided a comprehensive explanation of the recommendations of (52) official parliamentary meetings held with 189 hours of discussions and studies on solving the problem of solid waste recycling across the Republic, so that Egypt’s streets have a decent appearance commensurate with its civilization and its great people. .
Then a panel discussion took place between a number of senior officials in Alexandria society about their existing and implemented role on the ground in order to develop Alexandria and protect it from deterioration.
Some of the attendees exchanged opinions and inquiries, led by Engineer Ahmed Gaber, who stated that: Since 2017, the Alexandria Water Company has taken the initiative to contribute to the field of solid waste management by concluding joint cooperation protocols with some of the executive agencies entrusted with this work by placing a device to dispose of fluorescent lamps in front of service outlets. Customers and company branches allocated (3) bins for paper, solid and organic waste at each station, which contributed to educating employees, their families and customers on how to dispose of this waste optimally in a way that does not harm the environment and society.
He announced that we have started with ourselves as a system and are extending a helping hand to communicate with the various executive agencies in the governorate so that Alexandria returns to its ancient era and its appearance commensurate with its fame as the bride of the Mediterranean.
At the end of the celebration, everyone kindly visited the exhibitions held by the Awareness Department of the Alexandria Water Company and the various companies and innovative students at the university and schools. Everyone expressed their admiration for the innovative products and ideas presented.
